After a car accident, many people experience pain, weakness, and frustration. Many individuals are confused by the process, and are unsure of the steps needed to resolve the issues that resulted from the accident. In order to help provide insight to the process, Dr. Reece Hayden of Synergy Chiropractic of Houston attempts to share helpful tips for what to do following a car accident.
Howdy Everybody,
Dr. Reece Hayden with Synergy Chiropractic of Houston. Today we are going to try and answer some of the questions people have after being in a car accident.
Insurance companies are there to make sure that if anything happens, whether it involves a pedestrian, two or more cars, or damage to someone’s property, compensation can be made. They don’t understand personal pain. They do, however, understand financial responsibility for damages and medical bills. Keep this in mind when speaking with insurance companies.
A lot of our patients ask if they need to get an attorney. My rule of thumb is, if you don’t understand the rules associated with dealing with the insurance company, then it is probably a good idea to get an attorney. Depending on the case, some attorneys may turn you away while others will be more than happy to help. We encourage looking around. We work with multiple attorneys and we try to get our patients in contact with someone that can help them out.
Therapy is a big deal. Someone who has been in an accident involving multi-ton vehicles colliding together will have issues. Even if they are only going 5 miles per hour when the collision occurs, a lot of damage can occur in the body. It is always a good idea to get things checked out to see how your body is processing what just happened. We try to get our patients in as fast as we can and begin therapy so they can get back to their life without pain as fast as possible. The healing process can take a while. It can last anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months, depending on how bad the injury was.
Another big question we get in the office is how much will this cost. Most of the time, an accident doesn’t cost our patients anything out of pocket since the at-fault insurance carrier pays for the services. They are the ones in charge of reimbursing medical bills. That is part of the policies we all pay for. Whether it is your own policy, or the at fault person’s policy. The at fault insurance company is responsible for paying medical bills, and attorney’s fees.
